My neighbour has just cut down an apple tree and I grabbed a load of useful pieces. I was wondering if it's safe to use for spoons etc or is there any toxins or anything in it?

Thanks,
Stuart.

dont quote me on it but i am pretty certain applewood is used for smoking foods so i would imagine it is ok to carve spoons from.
Sam

All fruit woods are ok as far as i know. They are used to smoke meat as said above so there is nothing in them that would spoil food.

Excellent safe wood for utensils but rather hard if you are not experienced. Keep it from drying out until you crave it, get rid of as much wood as quickly as you can whilst it is fresh. You don't want to be carving it (other than fine finishing cute) when it is dry.

Thanks guys, that's really helpful info.

I'm off to make a thing, probably a big pile of wood-chips :)
