Anyone know what this plant is please..?

It was introduced as a foodstuff though.

It is worth being certain though, I have known people confuse it with dogs mercury which is toxic

What does it smell like? The middle photo looks more like meadowsweet to me.

Edit to add: And looking at the full sized photos the leaves also look more like meadowsweet - they have a red central stem and several pairs of leaflets down it, ground elder doesn't have as many leaflets.

I would go for Meadowsweet as well, especially since it seems to be growing beside water. Try crushing one of the fresh shoots between your fingers and see if it has a strong antiseptic smell.

It is defiantly meadowsweet as it is a part of the wort family and the elder is the carrot family so the flower configuration is completely different
