A freind of a freind has found these in a loft of an old house and is wondering what the hell they are

Does anyone on here have an idea?

They are definitely not grenades! Looks like they are part of a larger machine, possible rollers of some sort- they look like they may be about 2 feet or more long?

Where are they from? English Midlands area, Nottingham? Could they be from an old lace making machine perhaps? I remember being impressed when I saw a vintage machine in a working museum years ago, but it was so long ago I can't remember the exact details (1960 ish..:D ) Something like this..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_r1km3RW_XU :dunno:

I'm guessing some kind of pump or jacking system for something, is there any water works, canal systems nearby?

They look solid and well made so I'm thinking they're for heavy duty work.

What happens if you turn the handle/crank thing?

They look like they fit onto another pipe section or slot into something, that's why I thought maybe some kind of jack, but then the handle is in the wrong place.

No idea really
