Any BCUK Makers craft Machetes

I can't post in the makers market but do any BCuk knife makers produce larger blades ? more machete-esque in length and style or is there an issue doing a good job on a larger longer blade?

Not sure if this helps but I’m tempted to have a parang commissioned by KD knives who is based Bournemouth/Christchurch way.

He makes what looks to be good quality larger knives, saw his work at the Dorset county show and although his style is not always my cup of tea they look very well made.

Maybe worth a look?

When making any blade, there is the question of keeping the whole blade straight.

The longer the blade, the more difficult this becomes.

Then there is the question of heat treatment... Longer blade, more possibility of it warping.

Then there is the question of equipment.

You can easily build a small forge suitable for making small knives from a dozen firebricks (or even just two of them). Same with the quench tank, even a loaf tin can be enough for some work small work, but for a machete you'd probably want a tall tank made from a length of square tube welded to a big square plate for stability.

But for a machete, you need a bigger forge or gas furnace, bigger quench tank.

Problem isnt can a maker do it, Problem is, can he do for a price you see as a beater type tool? Answer is no. an 18'" machete would cost more than a 4" bushy. Few hundred quid. ( assuming you wanted good work, good materials, and a sheath.

And if you didnt want the best, and have the wallet for it. Buy the damn Tramontina. Not even close to being Joking. They're my go to. Made in Brazil, for the people that actually use them as intended.
