Another Lurker...

Hi all, I've been a member for some time now and have enjoyed reading the posts on the forum.

I thought I should finally introduce myself.

My job takes me out into the countryside everyday (I'm a mole trapper) and I enjoy having the ability to make a cup of tea and knock up other foods rather than buying sandwiches and rubbish tea out of a flask.

I suppose I'm not really a 'bushcrafter', but I enjoy learning new skills and making use of them.

Anyway, enough from me for now; I'll carry on reading...

Now there's an unusual job, I always wondered why folks trapped moles :dunno:

Welcome to the forum Talpa :D pull your seat in a bit closer and join the conversations.

cheers,

Hello Talpa - if catching moles and cooking/brewing tea in the outdoors was as far as people got from bushcraft there'd be a lot more of us! Welcome aboard and enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome.

The job is interesting, but it's a bit 'famine or feast'.... Most of my work is on Exmoor, where I trap moles on about 5,000 acres for farmers. I charge 'per mole' so if I don't catch any I don't earn...

I've had and used a Kelly Kettle for many years now; it's fine, but I've come to the conclusion that it's not quite what I need now. I've just ordered a Swedish Mess Set following a bit of online research as it's not always convenient to find material and start a fire. The other disadvantage of the Kelly is that I'd really like the ability to cook as well as heat water. I know that you can get the cooking set for the kelly, but I'd have to add on a cooking vessel and that would just add bulk to what I carry.

The ability to heat up some soup, or cook up a bit of rice or something really appeals to me and I'm hoping I've made the right decision.

Anyway, this probably isn't the section for this kind of write up.

Again, thanks for the welcome; it's appreciated.
