Does anyone have any ideas for a bombproof amadou recipe?

I've got the horse hoof fungus (many thanks for that, Fred) and was going to forge ahead and follow the RM recipe (take out trama layer, boil for 24 hrs., roll it out, then either rub hardwood ash into it until dry or boil it for another 24hrs. in a solution of wood ash) when I thought that there might be a fire-guru who could either give me some hints about how to get the best out of the fungus or suggest another, better (?) way of creating amadou.

Any help or suggestions gratefully received!

Boiling for 48 hours will take some doing Tiley.
the lot that I prepared was boiled in an ash solution for maybe an hour before being beaten flat and dried - it works a treat.
After all if you do the same and find it doesn't work, you could always boil it again to see what works best for you. Some places only reccomend as little as 15 minutes boiling with wood ash, and up to 24 hours without, so find a way that suits your ideal.
