Hi all,

11jnmoo.jpg

I recently found this in a box that was squirrled away by my father. It was forged for him a long time ago and is based on an original design ( GoGo tribe is the closest I can come up with though not sure exactly).Although the tang is completly wrong.

I would like to have a go at attaching it to a shaft and getting it to look reasonably original. The only trouble is I cannot find any specs on african spears.

I basically need to know how long the made their shafts and what diameter they were. Also how they attached the spear point aswell.

If anybody could help it would be much appreciated ( even just a few pics would be good)

Many thanks

Not sure about the origin of yours, not seen that type but mine is Swazi very similar to Zulu, given to me when I was about 5 by a Swazi warrior!!
The shaft is about 30" long and about half an inch thick.
The head is held on with intricate brass windings as seen in the bad photo.
Hope this is of some help.

Thats great Hog thank you ,

It gives me plenty to go on now.

The trouble I was having was wether to make a thrusting spear 6ft I believe or a thrower which is around the 3 ft mark.

Beutiful kit there and what a great gift to have

All the best
