My wife has a wall-mounted candlestick, a steel one with 6 swing-out arms. It was (badly) painted black and now rust has broken out (while stored in the garage). As it was covered in drips of candlewax, while removing the wax with hot water I tried just rubbing the rust off and rewaxing, but that's left it looking patchy.
My preference would be to put it over a fire, burn off all the remnants of the old paint and wax, sand back and spray paint. That would be a tad difficult, she wants it ok for xmas.
It's pretty waxy now, the only other thing I can think of is to try zeebrite.
Any other suggestions?
Oh and the other problem with it is that a couple of the arms droop a bit, so wax tends to run off. She's rather fond of it . . .
