Thanks again for the options, I'm thinking more of the "spigot & hole" thing now.

Yep, it works as long as the faces of the tang where the cap sits on are flat and square
A few people I have made knives for with this type of pommel use them quite hard when mashing stuff and the cap stands up to it ok with no problems

I wound up doing welding and a spigot/hole. :o weldings not my forte, but its getting a bit better, and is certainly strong enough. Thanks again for all the advice.

Also tried some filework on the back. I think I'll have a go at home made micarta for the scales..

IT took a while, but I got more done on this

I used holly for the handle with some metal tubing I had lying around, did have a plan for home made micarta, but that got shelved in the end..

The welded on end seems solid enough...

Ooo.... I like that.
Quite reminisent of the bush tool.
Lovely work.

A question though, I thought holly was poisonious?
Or is just the leaves?.
I'd be pleased if it's not because I've got a 10ft bush that i really need to get rid of and the wood you've shown looks very nice and i am sure I could find a use for it.
Also I presume you seaoned the holly wood?

Thanks

Thank you. Yep it was very based on the bushtool (I'm not sure whether you say inspired, based, or copied). I know holly berries can be toxic, so I thought it would be ok for handles not spoons, I was careful about the wood dust when filing down the handle, but I think that holds for most woods... The wood was seasoned, I got an offcut from the woodmarket at the Edinburgh Treefest..
