any esoteric use for it?

aside from pellets for a very mini bbq????

(its designed for filters for fish ponds BTW)

This stuff is also used inside a homemade water purifier.
Take one metre of drainpipe, and scour it out thoroughly. Tape a bit of very fine mesh net ( or a piece of spatter guard) over one end, that we'll call the bottom.
Fill the tube with the charcoal and fasten it upright to the edge of a cupboard over hanging a worktop.
Pour in a jug of tap water and put the jug underneath the tube. Out comes (supposedly) clean, de-chlorinated drinking water.

So I'm told anyway, by a friend who had one of these taped to the side of her horrendously expensive bespoke kitchen, when I asked why she had a drainpipe there ???
