Erm... it's variable
Yep I have managed to develop Achilles Tendonitis in both of my heels. I now have to rest for..........6 weeks!!! :( No more walking, or climbing or mountaineering for me! Oh the joy!
All messages of sympathy and supprt would be gratefully recieved, also advice on curing if anyone has had this before would be great.

Oh miserable :( Hope it all settles soon.
May I suggest that you bite the bullet financially and go and see a Sports Injury Physiotherapist. The difference it can make is astounding.

Cheers,
Toddy

Are we going to have to rename you hobbleboy for the next few weeks, then? ;)

At least it's a good excuse to stick your feet up and relax. Hope you get better soon.

Toddy's advice is sound, it may get you back on your feet earlier and it will also prepare you well so that there's less likely hood of it reoccurring in the future, it would be an investment in your health ;)

Fullest sympathies from me. I damaged my achilies tendon in a land yachting accident when I was 16. Thankfully it healed pretty well - although is still a bit weaker than my other one. I have to echo the advice given above though, and pay for a decent physio, well worth having.

Sympathy from me too. I had tendonitis in the bottomest joint of my thumb down by the wrist some years ago, and that was bad enough. Both achiles tendons being like that must be a right *****. The advice to see a physio or similar is the best. I suffered for while, then sought treatment which worked wonders. I had ultra-sound treatment twice a week for about a month and it did the job.
Other than healing fast, best idea is to relax and get a few "indoor, sitting at the desk" type projects underway to while away the hours. Best of luck with it Hobbitboy.

Bad luck Hobbitboy! I'de pm Poverian. His missus is a fab Sports Injury Massage ace and could give you great advice on treatment as well as details of a qualified practioner in your area.

Get well soon.

I developed Achilles tendonitis on Dartmoor with an hours walk ahead of me to the car! What fun... Took considerably longer than 6 weeks to heal. Found that wearing insoles to raise the heel, and thus reducing strain on the tendon helps dramatically as well as an elastic support bandage. That was the biggest help, and i always carry two now in my kit just in case!

PM'd with contact details - you'll need to speak to her directly to cut out the middle idiot.

It's bad luck, but at least you'll be able to hone any/everything that needs honing.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I'm pretty well up on achilles tendonitis - I've had it myself.

In the acute phase rest and ice, perhaps a heel raise, is good advice.

Sometimes, however, people develop chronic symptoms, often with a palpable tender nodule on the tendon, typically at 3 to 4 cm above where it inserts into your heelbone. In fact, this is not tendonitis, as there is no inflammation, and is properly called Achilles tendinopathy. It is traditionally regarded as difficult to treat, with some sufferers undergoing surgery, which involves a very prolonged convalesence.

Fairly recent research has shown that 'eccentric exercises' (ie,you load the muscle as it lengthens) gives very good results. Should really be done with a chartered physiotherapist.

Sprained my foot today....absolutely tearful and nauseous....put it down awkwardly into a hole in the stone flooring in one of the guardrooms in Stirling Castle. It was really sore walking about on the cobbles but driving home was a nightmare.....and I'm back there tomorrow. I'm full of ibuprofen and I've iced and heated it, and now it's raised, but it's aching and cramping....not a happy egg :(

All this history isn't good for me :( I tore tendons in my ankle and jiggered a wrist tripping over a tussocky bit of ground that was actually a neolithic field clearance, tore my shoulder muscle and twisted my elbow catching an old lady (about 18 stones worth!) from couping down a set of castle stairs, and now this......I'm in the wrong job

Thats rotten luck, Toddy.
Sounds like you,ll be keeping the weight off your pins for a while.

Try liberal amounts of Christian Spirits, internally. ;)

If I hadn't been tied into a steel boned corset ( my brother referred to me and my colleague as *bullet proof burds* ) I'd have dropped like a stone.
Felt so damned silly and I'd so many layers of skirts, etc on, that I could barely see what I'd done. I've got little feet and I went into the hole at just the wrong angle :( most folk wouldn't have a problem. Ach it'll heal, it's just a pain (literally) just now.
It fair gives one an appreciation for those who thole long term pain and injury though. :notworthy
Christian spirits? my dad called his bedtime dram in milk that too. The Doctor told him to enjoy it and miss out the heart pill! :D

Sorry folks didn't mean to hijack the thread :o

Cheers,
Toddy
