The subject of lighting a fire in various ways and conditions s always interesting. I would like to have seen more closely what shape flint and steel were used. But on the other hand realize the problems of making a video with close ins. Keep them coming, at least I'll watch.

Keith, I could watch clips like that again and again, a scene that has been repeated through history for thousands of years. Was it amadou to take the spark? Thanks for posting

This is the fire steel/striker that I carry now. It is an original 18th century fire steel that was made from a metal file.

In the above video I was using the musket flint that you can see beside my tinderbox.

Here you can see the size of the fire steel against the size of my tinderbox. Steel & tinderbox on top of my fire bag. The tinderbox is secured in the fire bag to keep it dry. The steel is tied off to the buckle on my belt pouch so that I can just drop it after striking sparks into the tinderbox & there is no chance of losing the steel.

Much obliged for your reply Tps.
The Horse Hoof fungus does not grow around here. I use a polypore bracket fungus & punkwood mainly.
