I met that guy in Sotima some weeks a go, gun collector, author in the process of writing a book about Finnish WW2 infantry weapons. Apparently also practicing practical shooting. Seems to know anything there is to know about Finnish infantry weapons. At least anything that is published. A nice fellow.

Its very nice, but it lacks the traditional ambience of a surplus store.

(I dont know about the smell; I do not have smell-O-vision)

True, the new store is slightly sterile but I still think that is better than the smell in the old one that included the effects from non-functional sewer ventilation.

Varusteleka is not that much of a surplus shop anymore.
It does seem like that to me.
A lot of old surplus is drying up but there doesnt seem to be any newer arrivals.
They are doing very well for themselves and I think they are less interested in the surplus now as they push their own brand kit out there but then again, I see the stocks dry up and the prices jump up in all the sirplus shops.

Most of varuatelekas kit looks nice but in there clothes especially, it's out of my budget, too many zippers, PU lining, goretex, unnecessary features.
Also they used to have so much army surplus stuff you could pick up for pennies, but now its almost always cheaper to shop elsewhere.
Edit: and they dont carry much thats much different to most other surplus shops anymore, i used to love buying from them because you could always find something different a quirky, like russian kit or swiss or whatever that we dont see over here in the UK.

They do have some awesome ideas and items for sale though, ive always wanted to go to there store in person.

I've bought a lot of stuff from there. Some stuff i love, some cheap mil tec tack.
Their own brand stuff is made to good quality. And theyre 90% of the time dead honest about their products and well described.

Yes but where does these days? We used to have grand old surplus store in Coventry that even had an ancient brass diving helmet in the window, but they put a road through it. With Covid the survivors hang on by the skin of their teeth with online sales, but it is not the same.

They got nice Swedish boots on the site at the moment .. only sizes they have are too small for me though. I'll snap them up if they get bigger ones in ever.
