OK, I have a folding lock knife that I want to put a leather loop on so I can clip it to a lanyard.
It's a great knife that I have had for yonks.
What I want to know is, can anyone recommend a good way of attaching a leather loop?
I have tried the obvious - drilling a hole. However. It was easy going through the brass bit, but then it comes to about 3mm of stainless steel in the middle. And that's just not giving in. I even bought a titanium drill bit to have a go.
Not a scratch!
Any ideas?
I have a shed full of tools, but nothing more than the average household.

You can see a picture of it here:

You can see where I have drilled into the brass and you can see the stainless steel.
Maybe drilling isn't the way to go. Mmm...would really appreciate some help on this.

Have you tried starting into it with a centre punch first, then slow speed with the titanium bit with a lot of weight behind the drill, and I mean plenty of pressure, it should go eventually, use plenty of lubricant on the bit?

I'll give it a whirl.
What with the lack of effect on the steel so far and the relative thickness of it, my hopes aren't high, but it's worth a try.

also start with a thinner drill bit.. and work the size up.. but remember the thinner it is the easier it is to snap the bit..

I'd recomend putting the knife in a cramp/vise and using a pillar drill as Sniper says..

I've worked with Stanless before.. it will drill.. just keep it cool and keep at it.. :)

Unfortunately all I have is a hand drill.
I was hoping to have another crack at it over this weekend, but the Fates intervened and I've not managed to have another go at it. Hopefully will over the next day or so and let you know how I got on.
But cheers so far for the tips.
