I was out on my snowshoes yesterday, and stopped for a boil-up. I always carry my IKEA twig stove, it makes a quick easy fire. For the first time ever I thought my fire wasn't going to continue burning; the pithy chokecherry and alder near where I was sitting burned poorly. Fortunately I had gathered in some Jack Pine twigs and cones, that did the trick, and the fire caught. The snow was yet quite deep, to the knee and more, but I found a bare rock for my stove, and soon it was tea time in the bush. Beautiful day too, lots of sun.
