here she is! Poppy the springer spaniel, 8 weeks old and an absolute joy. weve only had her a day but shes settled in greeat already. had her first vaccines and the vet sais she is in superb condition. shes got a great pedigree, kc registered and from a long line of working dogs. she'll be working for me on our local pheasant shoot in which she'll be invaluable. shes still going to sleep indoors and have home comforts though. lucy our golden retriver is still a bit anxious but theyll bond soon as theyre both lovely good natured dogs. im in love with her, shes great. shes my dog really and im raising, training and looking after her. a few photos of her here:

Really nice looking pup, has she been docked?
If not you will have to be careful when she's is working brambles.

She looks a wee cracker Cameron. I'm sure the two of you will bond and make a great team picking up pheasants at the local shoot.

Pretty pup….and surprisingly calm and snoozy for a springer :)
Got a lot of growing to do, looking at those feet :D
I hope the pair of you get a lot of pleasure out and about in each other's company.

Oh yes! You'll never regret choosing and rearing a Springer, like all dogs she'll pay all your inputs back many times over :) Makes my rising seven yr. old Molly seem like an old veteran! It's been one of the greatest pleasures and priveleges of my life to be associated with these magnificent creatures.

The biggest problem I've had with them is stopping them doing too much too soon, but I'm sure you'll have done a good bit of research into the breed and the boys on the shoot will put you right on does and don'ts.

Never a day goes by when my little'un doesn't surprise and delight me with some bit of amusing mischief I've never seen before; you're in for years of fun and companionship.

Very few thing areas rewarding as a good dog. heck, even a bad dog is better than most people. Looks like she's on the way to being a great dog! Congratulations.

Delighted for you Cameron, I know you have been working towards this. Remember to let her know who is alpha from the off in her feeding, sleeping etc. Dogs are a joy to a man but an ill disciplined dog is a sign of a careless thoughtless owner. By your dog shall we know you!

good for you Cameron! Springers just melt my heart and she is such a wee cutie, very jealous indeed. Our springer/collie is an old fluff monster now but still turns straight back into a puppy when she's out in the woods, theres no friend like them :)

I hope you have many happy years together and many successful shoots. I've always thought working dogs were the most fulfilled and thus happiest of dogs :)

Cheers everyone! She takes a lot of tiring before she sleeps like that! She's dong well already- she knows I'm the boss and she leaves things when told, sometimes needing reinforcement. Comes to name and is pretty much toilet trained. She'll eventually be trained to the whistle and she'll get started retrieving dummy's and proper training at about 6 months and discipline before that. Kept all the wings of the braces I've dressed to get her used to working feather but I think I'll start her on fur. I'm very excited! :D

I was just talking about training dogs to whistles with the folks whos dogs I'm looking after this weekend (2 adult and one puppy border terriers and a beautiful black lab). Was telling then how I took my last dog out with a mates working spaniel and through just watching her he picked up whistle commands in about 20 minutes and never failed on them after it. As Red says you know a person by their dog and one of the nicest things ever said to me was by Toddy from here, She was saying that he was as a proper dog should be, having fun, doing as he was told and bothering no one. Think it's so important to train and socialise a dog, it not only makes them happier but everyone around them too. (If you can get a hold of this book it's worth a wee read LINK)
Poppy looks a cracker and I'm sure the bond between you will be unbreakable.

Cheers Colin & Colin! Yeah you're right it's important to have a well behaved dog and well socialised too. She's met quite a few people already and she love meeting new people, very friendly and welcoming. Our dog is the only other she's met apart from her mam, dad and siblings but she will undoubted meet loads when she's finished her vaccinations :)
