I don’t suppose for a minute that this is an original thing but it has recently been very useful:

Saw (used unopened)
Ferro
Fatwood
Thing.
Anyone who has been camping this winter and who has been dependent on fire will know that lighting a fire in the rain isn’t difficult once you have a decent flame.
This little folding tray tucks into the glasses case that holds the tools listed. It’s the bottom of a cocoa tin.
Using the thing, I can get a flame going in the shelter of my jacket or poncho. Then I build a little fire that can fight the raindrops and transfer it to the main event.
It works for me.
