In answer to the thread of how people spend their weekends, I carried my camera today. So...

Went here

3049949139_b3dbbc8e7f_o.jpg

Lots of these

3049949135_e7cfff8f4e_o.jpg

Got deeply pi***d off with lazy anglers who leave this stuff hanging in trees and fouled in reeds. As a hunter I'm careful about non prey species - can't believe how these people leave hooks an line all over the place (I've cleared up that patch now - there are moorhens all over it)

Nice to see some of this

3049949111_6d1c2422c8_o.jpg

a bit tentative of my ID on this so didn't forage

3050816666_90b4213ab6_o.jpg

Enjoyed the sights of Autumn - loved the colours of this

3050816670_1f7dfb1b33_o.jpg

And the textures of this

Tired now, time for one of these

3049949123_a4501ba9d2_o.jpg

Although BB is snuggly warm and prefers something like this

3049949117_eac2b23d2c_o.jpg

Time to go home - can't spend all day bimbling I have to turn these

3049949143_f04ff1f781_o.jpg

into this

3050816658_8afef0d65c_o.jpg

Thankfully its also game season and my knives are sharp so this

3049984219_f9792dc104_o.jpg

can be trimmed into lean strips like this

3050816690_2207c7f4f2_o.jpg

And be seasoned like this

3049984205_d4b4695b06_o.jpg

And left to marinade overnight like this

Tomorrow I'll be running the dehydrator and doing other stuff.

Not sure if any of it is Bushcraft though ;)

Fraser,

Them Berries is cranberries. I got into growing my own this year and have filled out my "high mountain" cranerry bushes nicely. I got a few pounds of them this year and have learned how to layer and propogate them. That said these are about the last third of mine comined with some bought (local) ones. They made about a dozen 4oz jars from about 2lbs or so of cranberries. I only use raw cane sugar and my own brewed "midnight port" as other ingredients. It seems to go down well and I was offered two litre of Spanish brandy per pound of sauce (four small jars) from a lass who works with me but lives in Spain. I love barter ;)

Looks like an enjoyable and productive day out Red.

Our 4 year old cranberry bushes are yet to fruit, any advice ?

They HATE any alkali. I have to pot grow mine in erricaceous compost living on the high chalk. Since we use well water (tap water is as bad round here - really chalky), I throw all my coffee grounds and tea leaves onto the pots - it really raises the acidity

I think ours went straight into multi-purpose compost in pots. I can`t for the life of me remember which species they were and it`s too cold to go down the garden for a look, but all we ever get are scruffy stringy lengths of growth which just trail on the floor. No flowers and certainly no fruit.

Looks like a good time was had... the private pond near us is always surrounded by discarded fishing line and hooks. You find it inbranches and just lying on the floor.

I keep meaning to take photos and send them to the angling club chair, but in the mean time I'll just keep cleaning it up I suppose.
