I thought that last post of mine was actually a bit older...guess what, 10 months down the line and today I have clocked two Privet Hawk Moths in my garden. We don't have Privet, they beasties were low down on some tallish brassica-like things, the heads turn purple in late summer, but are otherwise boring and we were digging 'em out . Quite a large sized Moth , with a caterpillar to match.

Impressive beasts aren't they; sadly, not frequent in this area at all and TBH not supposed to be common North of the Midlands.

We've had a few Poplar Hawk Moths in the trap this year though.
