While I know how to turn a square tarp into a 3-sided tipi, I don't know (and can't find out) what size of square tarp is needed to form a tipi that stands 7' tall at its apex.

Could some kind geometrically-minded soul help me out? Pointing me at the formula will do.

TIA,

Mark.

Good old Pythagoras Theorum works for me most of the time.
Just reduce everything to right angled triangles

So -
for a shelter 7' high with 10" x 10" footprint
a = pole height of 7'
b = half the width of the shelter. (10' divided by 2)
c = length of material needed for 1 side.
So -
a squared = 49
b squared = 25
c = Squareroot(49+25)=74 = 8.6' distance from apex of tent to ground
