They're Wapiti Elk.

thanks for that, i thought they were just stock images of "large deer" that some lazy reporter had found on the 'net, i didn't realise that elk are moose but moose aren't elk (and if you can make any sense at all out of that you're a better man than i:))

Nope, not me guv. I wouldn't cross this guy, he's bloody huge.
I was offered permission to ferret the place ages ago - there's loads of black rabbits up there, a lot - I was told I could only capture/kill the normal rabbits, but had to release the black ones! I never bothered going in the end.

Yes wapiti (what we call elk in North America) are closer to red deer than anything else in Europe and what Europeans call elk are what we call moose. Add to the confusion by realizing that what's called reindeer in Europe is called caribou in North America.
