I picked up this sad little fella at a boot sale for 50p.



A bit of fettling and it became this:




It's an Elwell 1 1/4 lb.

Yes very satisfying.
I started off annoyed with the previous owners who had let it get so blunt, re handled the head upside down and wedged it with half a washer and some nails. But then I realised that they didn't have the Internet or BCUK: How would they have known how to treat an axe right?

What was the previous owner thinking with that hafting!?

Sometimes it's ignorance but a few times it'll be to even out the wear on the blade. Aggressive sharpening on big grinders etc usually.
