hello everyone,

i'm a new community member ,

i'm a french ex mountain corp commando called "chasseurs alpins"

so guys, you really don't need expensive goretex ,ventill,made clothes ;

get yourself a combat jacket ,the cotton one , the same for the trouses.

soak the ingredients into water, and you will find it'is quiet comfy.

don't forget to be active tho

see you

Maybe it's just me but I don't get it...

What do I have to mix and how is wet cotton waterproof?
And how is it a 4 season jacket?

Sorry for the stupid questions, but I'm a little lost right now.

By the way: much respect to "les chasseurs alpins" :You_Rock_

All the best,

Bjorn

I think foul tried to embed a link into his post with the list of ingredients used to make a cotton jacket & trousers windproof & waterproof, but it hasn't worked (see his comment on clicking on the 'blue arrow') - I see he's an owl rather than a lark so may not be up yet to read these replies! :)

I'm sure he'll explain once he sees these comments...

Welcome, foul!

Hi Foul,

So what your saying is that it's OK to let your clothes get wet as your skin will not absorb the moisture.

I think the main problem I have with this idea (if I'm correct) is that your damp clothes against your skin will suck your body heat and lead to hypothermia.

If I've got it wrong, please explain.

If that is what Foul is saying then I have to admit that it's been discussed before.

I've done it, you get wet, you stay wet but you block the wind and you *have* to keep moving. If it's warm enough skin will develop all sorts of interesting fungi (trench foot, etc) but if it's cold (and it was, I lived sodden wet for three weeks in the Lake District in March/April :( ) you keep moving all day and you can manage.
I lost one and a half stones in three weeks mind. I couldn't seem to regulate my temperature at all  Weird altogether, a bit like living outdoors for weeks on end and then coming back to central heating.

Cheers,
Toddy

It's true, it can be done. The only problem is when you stop...and if you're wearing cotton it cools off and takes ages to dry. And then hypothermia starts to set in. But he makes a good point, keep moving and you're good to go.

qwik recap everybody,

humans upper skin can absorb only 10% in volume of water or rain your choice'

after that the skin is water proof.it's called "saturation" can't take no more.
