Forest of Bowland
It was a horrible morning here (rain and mud), and I was a bit fed up not being able to get out and about, but I actually finished the day in good fettle so here are the BC'ish' things I enjoyed today:

1. In the search for an empty tobacco tin I found my Grandad's Beret Badge from WW2 and my first ever Opinel (20+ years old).
2. Walking the dogs at dusk without getting rained on, and hearing the 'day shift' birds settling down for the night and the Tawny Owl, Woodcock and Mallard coming out.
3. Getting the woodburner roaring and settling down just as the rain starts again!

What were your best bits today?

Getting the stew going in the Dutch oven whilst out fishing with a mate and seeing his face when it was ready.

umm, well today i did my lvl 2 food hygeine course with woodcraft school, but over the last week ive been mainly ash bow making, along with firelighting, flint knapping, long walks, having laughs with mates.

For me getting cracked on with my new kuksa cup its a lovely piece of birch from were three branches meet although its got quite alot of spalting wich looks great but there are some sighns of rot so im having to be gentle while its still wet. Hopefully it will be great when its done if i can get it there in one piece.
I no wot you mean about the rain i keep checking the weather it forcasts snow on the horizon but then it turns to rain. Bring on the snow;)

Finishing another bramble on willow frame basket
Stropping several knives to a hairpopping sharpness
Burning forraged wood in the new woodburner....

Getting clean and dry after a dirty weekend on Dartmoor, drying my kit out and realising i need a good quality 4 season sleeping bag !!

Also resisting the temptation to switch that tv box thing on in the corner .

Oh and never wanting to drink saki again .

Shared a good night and made new pals at Loch Doon.
Helped experiment with hobo meals
Watched a big frosty moon reflect off the loch

Went to sleep, woke up and went back to sleep in the woods in my hammock whilst watching the last of the snow melt.

I should have stayed there, the river burst its banks and I had to walk 2 miles through leg eating bog to cross over again.

Got out to the local rifle range for a while to shoot my .32 cal muzzle loader, and get it sorted out for small game...

Split a bunch of firewood this morning and with temps in the single digits in fareheit(sp)...

Got the woodstove going full bore and filled a trash can half way with kindling..

Took the mud-hunting terrier for a walk, cut 3 sticks, a birch which with some careful bending & carving could form a natural 'crook' shape, a piece of rowan about 5 ft long which should make a nice walking staff, and a piece of hawthorn that with work will hopefully be a walking stick with a natural derby handle. Saw a grouse (the closest I've ever seen one to home). Ground a finger hollow in my svord peasant blade, polished out the scratches caused during the grinding :rolleyes:, lightly blued the blade. This one is the inspiration (by Birdseye on the BB forum).

1. Finished making a leather back quiver;
2. Started to put a handle on a catty;
3. Sewed up the underarm of my Swedish Army Snow Smock ready for customising.

Not a bad day at all - all spent in the shed while SWMBO wrapped Christmas pressies and supplied me with cups of tea.

Cleaned the sheaths for my knives with leather balsam
Sharpened all my blade to a razor finish (I'm a bit anal where this is concerned)
Sorted some map sheets of up coming walks I intend doing

I also downloaded several pdf Books on survival.

Made some more twig pencils and crayons to sell at the next christmas market (not really bushcrafty but used twigs!)
Skinned and jointed two squirrels shot the day before
Put the pelts into salt ready for for tanning

A good day apart from feeling sorry for myself because of a man cold :D
