A 19th century style bag I made last year. I've been carrying it in the field for a while now. Good for a compass, knife, fire lighter, flashlight, spoon, notebook, small "survival" kit, and room to spare.
The "ears" are stitched on and riveted and the scalloped top keeps the bag riding on your side. The stitched down flap keeps the lid closed as a default.
Closeable outer pocket and small inner pocket.
Flat, open back pocket for small things like patch knife, oil rag, etc.
Worn for scale.
An obviously well-thought out plan, at least a couple centuries old but still good for the woodsman.
