A 19th century style bag I made last year. I've been carrying it in the field for a while now. Good for a compass, knife, fire lighter, flashlight, spoon, notebook, small "survival" kit, and room to spare.

The "ears" are stitched on and riveted and the scalloped top keeps the bag riding on your side. The stitched down flap keeps the lid closed as a default.

Closeable outer pocket and small inner pocket.

Flat, open back pocket for small things like patch knife, oil rag, etc.

Worn for scale.

An obviously well-thought out plan, at least a couple centuries old but still good for the woodsman.

Auscraft:
I designed it from photos found on the web. I saw this style carried by some 18th century reenactors and made lots of sketches. I didn't find an actual pattern but did a lot of searches for "possibles bags" and "scout bags". Here's one that sort of inspired my design (http://www.accu-riser.com/products/S%2d202-Scout-Possibles-Bag-w{47}-strap-and-bkle.html) but I remember finding one much closer to the one I made as something like a "gentleman's scout bag".

This guy also makes some nice one's: http://www.pepespossibles.com/

Dreadhead: I posted some pics of this on the deviantart page a while back. Like all leather, it looks better after some hard use.
