does it matter which way the grain runs when i cut a blank or does the length of the blade have to go with the grain or is the grain off where it has been ground thanks

I assume you mean the lines on a fresh piece of bar?

I believe these are just marks from grinding it flat.

It doesn't matter which way you go as the final structure of the blade will be crystalline.

Yep it is the surface grind marks. 01 grain is the same both ways

blimy how big a bit have you got that you can choose the direction the blank lies or is it a very small blade

only a small bit 500x200mm but can fit 3metre shts on the beds
