Decent pocket knife or multi tool will be perfect for the reserves … whilst in the TA in the late 80s early 90s it was all Swiss Army knives or similar until leathermans started to gain some traction in the market .. never once did we need anything else. Occasionally new joiners would turn up...
I've used an old MOD survival Knife to do the work you describe in the past.. pretty much indestructible and has the weight to help..
Sounds like you are sorted though
Only lock knives I own are two or three Opinels.. Wooden handles that you can easily carve/sand to fit your own hand better if needed.. very innocuous looking and they last for ever.. Easy to keep sharp too
And best of all cheap as chips...
