Thank you and thanks to @Mesquite for organising. A bit of luck and a bit of persistence on this one. One day I’ll catch the cormorant with its wings raised, but I doubt I’ll get another day with the river so calm.

    Beer mats

I used to collect them, and have one of these boxes in the loft. For me it was definitely connected with being somewhere and picking one up. You might be able to sell them though I guess.

    Recommendations in Scotland?

If I was coming for a month I wouldn’t plan to stay in one place, you could do a week each in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Oban or spread the time across the places where you’re looking at relevant university courses. That would also mean making the wrong choice for one week is only for...

    Recommendations in Scotland?

Hi Mhearadh, I don’t know if this will help, but you could try searching for church first and then see if some of your other requirements work: This has a list of catholic parishes in Argyll and southern highlands: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Catholic_Diocese_of_Argyll_and_the_Isles...

    Family backpacking, Scottish routes?

The Great Glen Way (Fort William to Inverness) is a nice walk we did a few years back (before kids), not as long as the WHW.Doing it in a week most of the legs were pretty reasonable about 12 miles if I remember. Also worth looking into the Fife Coastal Path and John Muir Way.

Royal Bank of Scotland Bank of Scotland Clydesdale (I don’t think Clydesdale Bank branches exist anymore now they are Virgin Money, but the notes still say Clydesdale)

Iona might tick your boxes. I’ve no idea how it would be to get there mid-winter though.

    shipping knives in uk

That’s not my reading of the prohibited items list. To me it says they are allowed for UK mail, unless they are actually illegal. I would check the box and label it as a bladed article, in my experience though the post office stopped taking them when the new law came in, the sorting office was...

Try this. https://www.royalmail.com/sending/uk/tracked-48 I think you can select age verification as an option as you click through. If you go to the buy postage page, select small packet, it will show a few options. Then you need to get it to show more options, and tracked 24 and 48 with age...

I’m pretty sure the laws around postings bladed articles also applies to couriers, so the post office has to ask to make sure they are meeting their legal requirements and if they don’t offer an age verified service (which they don’t) they can’t accept bladed articles.

Royal Mail does an age verified service on tracked 24 or 48. It is available online for collection or drop off at the sorting office. Bladed articles require to state their contents on the packaging and be sent via age verified service. It is a nuisance, but the law changed about a year ago...

Plant recognition apps not as reliable as we might hope......

Really interesting article. It didn’t look like the app I have used was part of the review but interesting to see the one that that was most accurate one is based on a combination of algorithm and expert review.

    External Wall Insulation- Suitable ?

We looked at what we could do for our end terrace last year. There were interest free loans with cash-back incentive if our EPC suggested an upgrade and we went to an approved installer. We looked at cavity, under floor and loft top up. It turned out we had cavity wall already, but the others...
