    Tree ID

Hi, can someone help me identify, or point me to a good resource (I've tried google images and wiki) this: I'm sure its something easy to identify, but I can't seem to find it.

    Favourite Things in Fire Starting

The answer to this really depends on the time of day and frame of mind I'm in... I love flint and steel, but hand me them when I wake up at 4am because the temp has dropped to -4 and the tarp is surrounded with snow and I'll just give you this look: :bluThinki and get a lighter out.

    Bear Grylls injured

"Darwinism" Maybe? Meh. We shouldn't jump to conclusions. He could have hurt himself saving someone/things life, but my fine tuned (spidey-sense) instinct says otherwise. ;)

    aa maglight upgrade

I have the IQ and 1 Watt combo. Its pretty good. The LED looks like either a 1w Luxon light engine or a really good clone so you get a nice white output (not blue tinged like some cheap LED's). I had a few problems in the first Mag I used with the LED not seating correctly but I put this down to...

    Tiny Alcohol Stove

Magnetic materials loose there ferromagnetic ability when heated. This is called the Curie effect. It really depends how hot its going to get. Another problem is rare earth magents often contain cavitys that could cause the magnet to explode when heated. So be careful when trying this. Enough...

    Bushcraft Poetry

My favorite poem by my favorite poet is "The tables turned" by William Wordsworth. Not to be taken to seriously, but a good way to justify stopping work for a while and going outside--

bushcraft on a budget - help?

Headlamps free up a hand at night and are much more practical than those little keyring led torches imho. Oh and a little bag full of broken up bits of those fire lighting bricks + lighter. Yes, lighting a fire with a steel or bow and drill is a great and fun craft but at 5am in the morning when...

Favourite Bushy (or non) Web Pages

This is about as far from bushcraft as you can possibly get. :D :D :D http://www.b3ta.com/ :nutkick: WARNING: Not for the easily offended. Only visit this site if you have a sick, perverted, dark, twisted and slightly childish sense of humour. :lmao:

    Argos Tipi Heads-up

I intend to give the fly a good washing in Fabsil and seam sealer before using it. This has been known to turn cheap, leaky "Shower resistant" tents into something you wouldn't mind sitting a downpoor out in. Keeping a poncho with this tent is an awesome idea just incase the weather take a...

    Argos Tipi Heads-up

Just a quick initial look at the two person version. As soon as I get a chance to make some space on the lawn I'll put this thing up and leave it up over a rainy night. With regards the weight. If you remove the pegs, pole and ground sheet it would weigh next to nothing and compress down tiny...

    Argos Tipi Heads-up

I decided to get the smallest (two person) version at the weekend. I figure, if it's any good I'd buy a bigger version. I've not had chance to have a good look at it yet but I'll post pictures and info here as soon as possible.

    The Outdoors Show

I've been going for that past 4 years now. It's very caravan/boat orientated but sometimes you can pick up a few bargain bits of bushcrafty kit. Don't let me put you off but I don't think I'd go if it wasn't for the fact I get free tickets thanks to a relative working for ocean media. ;)

    Fake Crusader Gear?

Still looks like a good deal to me. I have a BCB 58 and a copy 58 and as I said, the only difference is size. The copy is just as good. So I'd say everything is BCB but the bottle and one of the cups. If you're really bothered about the extra 0.15L of water you could carry with a BCB 58 pattern...

    Fake Crusader Gear?

I know other people that have brought this issue up. There is a difference in size between a real Nato 58 pattern (1L) and a "58 style bottle" (0.85L). Apart from size and being a real Nato issue item there is very little difference in quality. Example...

Sleeping bag v Quilt in Hammocks.

Just this Friday I was in a DD at -2, 3 in the midlands. Not a problem though I have a really cheap Foil ground mat from a local outdoors shop. (it's a "Hi gear" if that make any difference to anyone). It was really cheap and would probably be crappy/uncumfy on the floor but it seems to make a...

    do you have theeee tarp

Sorry to bump an old topic but was this ever resolved? What did you finally decide on. I for one am amazed when I see people spend a huge amount of money on kit like this. I agree with big_swede here. Why spend 40 quid on a tarp when you can get 10 cheap ones for that price? Although...

    binoculars or monoculars?

This is a really hard poll :(. Its apples and oranges me thinks. I voted bins because that seems to be what I use the most at the moment as they are just on a shelf under a window on my boat. But if I was going out camping I'd take my mono simply because it quicker, easier and smaller to use.
