ive been wearing Craghoppers 3in1 jackets for years. i pick them up when they are on sale, and they are reasonably priced.
i find them an excellent all year coat. versatile, warm, and waterproof.
just to update.
the zip jammed on about the 6th wear out. i was able to free it with some pliers but it is very poor quality and awkward to use.
the coat let in water at the shoulders and arms after about 40 minutes of constant rain. Nikewax proofing has made it waterproof though.

i find giving the lip of the jar a few good bangs against a hard surface around its perimeter helps break the seal,
wore the new coat out today for the first time. no rain, but a strong wind.
found the coat to be very comfortable and quite warm. definitely not a summer item.

Gortex i find is good if you dont mind buying new coats regularly and just want them for light duties.
unfortunately the man made materials arent nowhere near as hard wearing as the natural stuff.
ive just ordered a wax jacket with detachable hood for dog walking.
got it from new forest clothing. cost £40 in the sale and has plenty of good reviews.

lots of cheese and cheese related stuff, crackers, pickle etc.
opened a jar of pickled onions and was taken by surprise. they were pickled with chillies!
after i got over the initial shock i actually started to enjoy them.
