    first flint/steel fire

well, I dont yet have the flint and steel skill. I would say I have the haphazard awkwardness of a real greeny. I lit one more and it took me many wacks with the steel. It does look like something I would like to practice a bit more and with a decent steel too. I have deffinately got...

    first flint/steel fire

I have made fires with bow drills most of my life. Other that using optics that is aobut the only non 'match' way I had ever tried. I used matches or a cig lighter most of the time and a bow drill if I was going primitive or with boy scouts. I saw the fire piston online near the begining of...

    Spontaneous Combustion

i think it works best when you dont want it to. Be careless for a while and you can burn the house down.... There may be some easy, controled way to do it, but I can think of easier modern ways to make fires and also of primitive ways which are plenty of fun and quite reliable.

    Spontaneous Combustion

In our woodshop, we are carefull to hang out our stain rags and dry them before discarding them. I have seen rags sponeously combust, more than once, from people being careless with rags used to finish furniture.

    Back Pain Advice??

yep, or at least a warning message for something. The body is a lot smarter than all of us. It wouldn't hurt to have it looked at by a competent health care provider, be it chiropractic or allopathic. It is also very possible that you can figure out what causes it, since it doesn't...

    Back Pain Advice??

I won’t be involved in any contention on the matter, but it might be worthwhile to read the last 3 or 4 paragraphs of the article and the multitude of other studies that have been done on the topic. All too often the findings of research are unfortunately dictated by the funding agency or the...

Thanks I have shot it a few times but only at home so only about 15 meters. Draws smoothly and flings the arrow pretty well. I dont have a chrony so dont know how fast but it hits hard. No noticable handshock. I hope to get out Friday after school to shoot some more and at various...

My first bow...and its your fault.

You know, I have always spent time in the hills hunting, fishing, camping, etc. However, I have been stuck in the city and in a place in life keeping in the city for a few years now. I made the mistake of looking at some knapped stone, online, a couple weeks ago..... ...... .... a see a...

    Back Pain Advice??

I would recommend going to a chiropractor...I am biased though as I am half way through my studies to become one. Chiropractors deal with many problems similar to yours, on a daily basis. Most Chiropractors either have x-ray can refer you to one. Even before x-rays, the DC should be able to...

    Hanging Pheasant, urgent help needed.

this seems to be more a question of tradition and geography than of the right and wrong way. We clean all the birds Iwe shoot, as soon as possible, quail, partridge, pheasant, water fowl... ... ...

    Carrying axe's on/in backpacks

I just had to jump in here and comment: All you bushcrafters, in the UK, seem to be a determined lot. I would never have imagined what you go through to go out and practice you bushcrafting skills. Here, I would never of thought twice about tying an axe to my backpack nor a bowie knife...
