    Harvestman have you been to Rheola Market in Neath, i bought a lovely billhook there, it was a couple of years ago mind. A chap there had a table full of old tools, i'm sure there a few old axe heads in a box under the table. It's open on saturday morning.

    Well, went out and found some gorse, only a small branch managed to carve two small spoon like object's. The gorse carved ok but as xylaria said it has a twist in the grain, and as the spoon's dried out they distorted and on the larger of the two spoon's the area by the bowl split. The colour...

    Just saw Adam Hart Davis sharing his love of spoon carving on The Wright Stuff, and Mr M Wright said he has been out with Ray Mears and Adams spoon carving was as good as Ray's, so well done to him.

    Google scythette, longer handle, less strain on the back, can't say for sure cos i have never used one but may be worth a look.

    'sling blade' slashers

    I use a Martindale grass slasher on the allotment, Red is right the handle will give you blisters I've sanded the handle down a bit and it's alot better. I also use a Rolson billhook for the smaller area's, i don't mind using them i need the exercise. :)

    Take a look on you tube for operational extra's vid's , i believe he's Mr Black on bushcraft usa , bit different from the other vid's on the tracker knife.
