Try some zinc oxide tape, and stretch the wound before you tape. It will need replacing regular, anyway having a roll of it is quite handy. Its a pain damaging fingers as they never really stop moving and reopen the wound. you could put some germolene sparingly on the cut.

Yes I saw that when I was searching out water info, like distilled water is ok but has no electrolytes and minerals in it as you would get from tap water.

My local B and Q has quite a bit of sheet with various holes and varying prices. I don't think you will get stainless from them, but if they are not far away maybe worth a look at the metal stock rack.
