    Recommended UK/European custom knife makers?

Cheers everyone, it’s much appreciated. I’ve contacted Dulo and a couple of the others mentioned, and checked every website linked. I’m closing in on this knife! @C_Claycomb just to clarify, a knife about 15” overall would be great, so normally a 10” blade or so. Style-wise, I want it 5-6mm...

    Recommended UK/European custom knife makers?

Hi, Seeing as I’m having a bit of trouble finding this 12-16” 3V blade, are there any standout UK/Euro knifemakers you guys can recommend? Ones with plenty of fans attesting to their heat treatment and finish quality, a bit like Carothers? Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Best knife steel for prying and toughness/hardness?

Thanks mate, I’ve got one medium/large Elmax blade so hopefully that’d be OK then. I’m still digging about for something large and 3v. I found this thanks to someone on Instagram... https://surviveknives.com/gso-10/ They make an 8” and a 12” too.

Best knife steel for prying and toughness/hardness?

Yeah, I heard about Bark River (I think) having numerous issues with their 3V heat treatment a few years ago. You’re right though, you could buy the most statistically reliable car on the market and it could shear a valve head within the first month. I suppose you’re just reducing the chances...

Best knife steel for prying and toughness/hardness?

Yeah, there will always be anomalies. From what I’ve read across several forums and youtube videos now, if you used the same size/thickness testing blanks and heat treated each steel properly, 3V would always come out as one of the toughest under test conditions, if not THE toughest.

Haha, jesus. That’s a strange one.

Best knife steel for prying and toughness/hardness?

Yeah, I probably worded it badly. I just want a big knife from a tougher steel than Elmax. At the moment I’m thinking 3V is the answer.

Best knife steel for prying and toughness/hardness?

Yeah I hope not. I just wouldn’t want any rust spots if I used the blade/sheath in the wet and missed some moisture before I stored it. I’ll have a look at camellia oil and ballistol. Thanks.

Ballistol’s not expensive, I’ll buy a can of that if it’s good for knife maintenance. Cheers.

Is WD40 OK for knife maintenance? Just to stop any rusting while they’re left in their sheath?

Best knife steel for prying and toughness/hardness?

I actually find the scales uncomfortable compared to my other knives. I suppose that’s the trouble buying over the internet and not being able to feel them in a shop. I imagine it’s not built for comfort though, so the ultra grippy scales aren’t really an issue. I’d just wear gloves with it if...

Best knife steel for prying and toughness/hardness?

@Billy-o did the pics of the F1 work, mate? I was chuffed to get it, they released a test run of just 56 knives (strange number), and I managed to grab one before they sold out. It’s my first convex as well, I haven’t got a clue how I’ll sharpen it. I’ll have to watch some Youtube vids first.

Most of the charts I’ve looked at, and the info from this thread, say that S35vn is a lot less tough than 3V. It’s pretty close to Elmax, which I already have in 4 knives. That one looks pretty tough though! It looks like they know how to heat treat their steels.
