I think it would be better for the wind to be blowing horizontal to you're tarp set up with the fire in the middle, this will keep the smoke away from you but you will still feel the benifit of the fire.Hope that made sense lol.
I have brought some biltong from st Marcus and enjoyed it.But as I've been of work today with a strained back I decided to make my own biltong,so there for I had to make a biltong box with things I found laying about.A storage box which I wired a light into the bottom of the box, along with a pc...
Definitely birch polypore, very useful fungus can be used for fire lighting as a strop for your knife and as a plaster incase you cut yourself, and many more uses.
Nice write up as always Barney, that cabin was a luxury.suffering with back problems a decent bed was a good call on my behalf and the stove was nice and cosy.Looking forward to our next trip out,I will be in my bergans tipi with a frontier stove,I'm getting used to this glamping lark lol.Bring...
I'm not sure I can use that in my lavvu,I'm sure someone sold a section that held the lavvu fabric away, the lavvus have a removable hood/peak the flue section will go up through that and the hood wrapped around said section.it is not a canvas,it's made from normal tent material.
Thank you herbalist1
,I have been looking for a something to hold the material away,a cowling section,I know I have seen them for sale before somewhere.Anychance you could send a link to where I can buy one.
Thank Andy.

They are easy to carve, there is a video on YouTube that would show you better than me explaning it lol.it was geen pine that a tree surgeon had cut down at the cemetery where my dad is at rest.I used an auger and a carving knife to make mine.

Just thought I would share with you a little carving project I did the other day,a shrink pot I carved out of a pine branch.Fun and quite easy to make.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I can't see why not,I used it the other day to re proof my fjallraven trousers and then I thought I would try it on my buffalo shirt, melted in ok using a hair drier.
Good write up Barney and glad you enjoyed you first solo. The wildlife coming closer in is what I enjoy about going solo, after reading that I'm looking forward getting out again i believe we are going to church farm Ardeley at the end of October
Thanks for the replies,I have decided to make a shrink pot with one of the pieces.it dose carve easily, think I will find a fallen birch for my kuska project tho as it was mentioned resinous wood would taint liquids in the kuska.
Hat is off with that carving,I'm thinking I will leave the pine alone and hope to come across a fallen birch for my projects or failing that I could go to a local tree surgeon yard
