I'm sad to hear that their quality is declining but I can't say I'm surprised. I'm not fully blaming the company though because they've had to compete with other manufacturers making cheaper ripoffs for quite some time now and if people keep buying the cheaper stuff then Maxped will inevitably...
I'm still pro-bird box after years of experimenting with them. I've currently got around 20 nest boxes up in various locations along with bat boxes and bee hotels which also have their own controversies. They're mostly Schwegler woodcrete boxes and I've been careful to use different types of...
Apparently someone tried to reply to this thread and I hadn't realised it was still here. The knife was sold via a seperate post in Member's Classifieds.
Well I tried a spoonful with a bit of good quality dark chocolate and that was very tasty. I'm not sure about the logistics of coating them in chocolate now but it's definitely worth a look.
Flapjacks are a good idea but my wife says she might be able to make me some muffins with them instead...
I've just bottled off my whimberry whisky and I'm left with the alcohol soaked berries to deal with now. Apart from freezing them in small batches to eat with icecream or apple crumble over the winter is there anything I should try with them? In the past I've added various soaked berries to...
The collectors' markets seem to have gone a bit crazy recently. Anything limited edition or 'rare' is snapped up by scalpers and put back up for sale at 3 or 4 times the price. That Heinz Christmas soup that was a limited run of 500 cans is now being sold on Ebay for up to £175 a can. People...
20% off posh cheese at Waitrose today so I've got myself a nice big block of Yarg and a Comte as well. I picked up a nice bottle of stout to help wash it all down too. Rude not to really...
It was getting dark and my phone was struggling but I'll be back that way tomorrow and will double check. I don't plan on eating them or anything but I'd like to get some better photos. You can kind of see the translucence in this photo though.
I really want to try doing a proper rumtopf one year.
This year I have gone with whimberry whisky and I'm contemplating making some blackberry as well. The new minimum alcohol pricing has put me off a bit as I can't get whisky under £20 a litre now.
Grey area but generally it's assumed that photography is intentional disturbance. I work in a lot of old buildings where bats can be present and the ecologists we work with say that we can't go in anywhere that's an active roost without licenced supervision. In reality blind eyes are often...
It's kind of illegal to take photos of roosting bats just so you know. I'm sure you were careful not to disturb it but some people get funny about these things. I got a telling off for photographing a dormouse once.
My guess would be spotted cranefly. It's quite lightly marked on the back of the head compared to the tiger. Hard to say for sure without seeing the detail of the wing and the abdomen markings though. There was one in my kitchen this morning :)
