I'm not sure what the wood is but yes it was left over from an old rake or hoe I think. One of the old tools I salvaged from my Gran's garden when she got too old to get out there. The head was beyond use but the handle has been kicking around the garage waiting something to fit it. I couldn't...
Nice work. I've got some of those Ikea drawers on my desk and don't like the bare look of them so I might do something similar. I'm also embarassed that I didn't think of something as simple as turning the drawers around to get rid of the front cutouts
Yes I gave it a soak in some POR15 rust killer and then a coat of the paint. I imagine the paint might have been scuffed off a bit when I tapped the handle into place though but it's better than nothing. I soaked the wood in linseed oil before fitting it too.
I finished the handle off today and decided to fit it. I cleaned up the metal a bit more but I think you guys are right about not going too far and removing some pitting isn't going to improve matters much if there's always going to be a lot on there anyway. Anyway here's a quick before and...

I was working at an empty property this week that's being cleared out for renovation. There were a couple of rusty tools by the bins that the owner said I could take. I only really wanted the trowel but took the other thing because it looked useful. I thought it was a pin for securing something...
Someone told me the difference between collecting and hoarding is the labelling. I don't label or catalogue anything so I guess I'm a hoarder.
I've got the magpie instinct I think and tend to collect anything I find interesting. My office is a curiosity cabinet of random, valueless stuff...
I use a Sony A6000. The only thing with it is is the range of lenses is limited and expensive. Any decent lens is big too so it makes the size difference between it and a DSLR less noticable. You can stick to the kit zoom lens for portability but then most of the time my phone takes pictures...
There are websites that allow you to check if your personal details have been stolen in any major hacking events. I checked and my details were stolen off a major website apparently. I've had spammers using the info to try and blackmail me. They had part of one of my passwords and told me they...
