    What's for Supper?

Well, not supper but lunch a short time ago. Me and Barbara took advantage of our youngest grandson, Carson's, elememtary school policy and signed in as visitors to have lunch with him. He had asked me yesterday if we would. Just a fast food burger we had brought with us but it was great being...

    International Men's Day.

Mostly I saw the opposite. The traditional veterans groups like VFW and AL were begging Vietnam vets to join because their molder members were dying off from old age. The younger vets (my generation) just generally showed no interest. Fortunately that changed in the 1980s. Regarding the ratio...

The "appropriate" punishment for rape should be capital punishment.

    International Men's Day.

I'm sorta in agreement with you. However I'm unsure of which is causal and which is effect. Growing up in the 60s and 70s boys usually had fathers influencing their lives: even if their parents had separated or divorced, they both continued to help with the children (so the male role model was...

    International Men's Day.

I think 1 pint is less "numbing the pain" and more "about lubricating the conversation." And yes, unwinding from the day's tensions at the pub instead of dragging your problems home is probably very good for the relationship.

    What's for Supper?

Last night was meatloaf and potato salad. Not decided on tonight's menu yet but as it's a fast day it'll be a shellfish or vegan main course.

If you had no ties and money wasn’t an issue, where would you move to?

Too many places to list unfortunately. I loved it in England, in Texas, in Nevada, in Alberta, in Colorado, and I love it here in Florida. Idaho is still on my bucket list as is Alaska also. following the OP's allowance that money was no object I'd likely buy two things: 1-A large RV and simply...

I was stationed at Bergstrom AFB in Austin for 3 years. I miss Texas every day.

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

@Toddy, yeah the locks I was describing here don't automatically lock. Locking them has to be a deliberate action. That said, I understand your reluctance. Regarding the siting of the nuclear fleets I suspect that decision was made back in the day: back during the full Cold War when the...

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

@Toddy I guess I'm lucky regarding house locks. Mine only require a key from the outside; they can be locked and unlocked from the inside by a simple twist of the knob. You're absolutely correct, you need to be able to escape easily as well.

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

Home security/Personal security can be a trade off, I'll ex[lain why later. Here I have more options for personal weapons for defense that y'all don't have so I'll concentrate on the means we have in common. Particularly home security. For both there and here that generally means what we call...

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

For me that works well. but then my normal is prepping for natural disasters (hurricanes being high on the list) That means a 90 day supply of meds, a 2 week supply of non perishable foods (the same canned goods I would eat anyway although normally I wouldn't eat them every day) 2 weeks supply...

    What's for Supper?

bison is very lean, especially ground bison. that might be better used in something with a sauce such as spaghetti bolianese or sloppy joes. It's also good in chili or mixed with another fattier meat for meatloaf or meatballs.

    International Men's Day.

I don't know what the real numbers are in the broader world, but limiting just to those I knew personally the suicide ratio has been equal: two of each. The difference being that the men shot themselves and the women overdosed.

    International Men's Day.

Ironically, it seems the lack of a masculinity (or at least a masculine role model) has more detrimental effects. Of all then many "mass shootings" here almost all of them have been perpetrated by someone who had no male role model while growing up. Many perpetrated by someone who had been...
