    Rail track is a great item to start with but the steel is fairly soft on rail track and you don’t get the work back you would on a professional anvil. Edit just realised I’m replying to a post from July.

    Thanks guys, I’ve made a few seaxes in the past it might be the false edge on the top giving that illusion. The guy who’s taken is is going to make his own leather sheaf unfortunately I’m all out of leather at the moment.

    Try using walnut oil before adding any liquids. A good few soakings so it’s all in there. Think of wood like little straws. The oil will fill these straws and prevent the water from getting in and expanding and shrinking the wood.
