Rail track is a great item to start with but the steel is fairly soft on rail track and you don’t get the work back you would on a professional anvil.

I’m guessing fallow I’ve seen them near just outside of Lampeter. They seem to be really spreading around the south in the last 10 years. We are inundated with them around the Afan forest.

Here is a large hunter I’ve forged for a friend. Steel is 1095. Handle is brass fallow antler birch and birch bark. Spine is 3.5mm edge is 165mm total length is 280mm

Try using walnut oil before adding any liquids. A good few soakings so it’s all in there. Think of wood like little straws. The oil will fill these straws and prevent the water from getting in and expanding and shrinking the wood.
Not in person. I’ve seen guidance images and apparently it’s around my area already. It shows it’s self as a sort of black legion coming out of damage on the trees. (Douglas for and western hemlock) being most effected. I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t already in the Dean without being...
