    Hi Robbi I have a long spring that cabn be stretched, from memoru it's around 5mm diameter, It can be stretched then cut to length with wire cutters.. I'll dig it out in the morning and measure the dia ;) John :)

    Try filing it!! If it files easily then it will most likely be mild steel, if it skates across without biting then it will be carbon steel and good for an axe ;) John:)
