A couple of my new carving sharps needed protection.
First up; my Robin Wood hook knife. I'm not sure where I first saw this idea but it isn't mine.
Next is a Mora 106 that I put a handle on. This idea I copied from those made by a guy called Reid Schwarz. It was a real pain to make so he...
As a young man I travelled the UK extensively for work. I kept a mental note of places that felt right; places I would be happy to settle in. Where the landscape felt like home.
Years later, I realised that I had apparently noted areas where the geology was sandstone.

I have only had one interaction with Mr Canterbury on FB but it was telling. He commented on a picture I had posted, but hadn't noticed an important detail, which meant that his comment was wrong.
I replied and noted the detail he had missed (in a polite conversational way).
Rather than...
My all-time favourite fire starter was once demonstrated perfectly in front of a group of mocking French boy scouts.
They had paused to make fun of our shambolic campsite and particularly our pile of soggy firewood.
We had with us some calcium carbide for caving lamps, which gives off...
I just call this a box. I made it from pallet wood because I was fed up with turning up at a site with stuff in plastic boxes and carrier bags. The whole thing was scorched with a blow torch then doused in boiled linseed oil.

I have a hankering to make a large floor...

As a boy one found me. I was playing in the waves on the beach near Mombasa. I remember seeing something floating on a wave, then pain. I don't remember the next couple of days, but I am told that I was delirious in bed being swabbed with ammonia. I had red welts down my back and legs as if...
I think the answer is two-fold. Samon pointed out that it is usually just certain sorts of topics that spark ill feeling. Jordan has intimated that it is a select few making the snide remarks. These things only start to be a major part of the forum when there are less of the other topics and...
