Do metals get old and weakened through time?

Yes, it is stainless steel. There is no rust anywhere on the metal part of the spade at all. The blade is also hard metal. I tried to sharpen the spade edge with angle grinder years ago. The edge was so hard, it wouldn't sharpen, and the grinder pad in the angle grinder just wore out.

Do metals get old and weakened through time?

The make of the spade is "Draper", and it was cheap. I recall it was £15 or £20 in 1997 - 1999 around the time. At the time, money was worth more than the now. Petrol was 67p per litre. Will try to get close-up photo of the raw edge of the breakage. Yes, it has lasted well, and it had done...

Do metals get old and weakened through time?

This spade had been bought new in 1997 from Costco Glasgow. It has worked flawlessly and faithfully for all that years. It was strong like a tank digging and scooping soils, gravels and chips. It dug out many plants, trees, grass patches and weeds. But it suddenly broke yesterday when...

    BeaverCraft BB3 Spoon Carving Kit

I almost got this kit from Amazon, but somehow didn't go for it. What caught my mind was I was not sure what type of wood would be best for the spoons we could actually use on daily basis. Also I didn't own spoon carving gouge. Now I own one, and maybe I could have a go. But having read the...

Recommendation for good Tent for Garden Bushcraft?

For garden bushcrafting, tarps and tents seem doing good job providing the temp shelter for practicing the real bushcraft skills - outdoor cooking using wood fire, alcohol or gas stoves, forging and sharpening tools, learning about the way to put up tarps (tents only set up one way - tarps have...

DIY forged ODC (Occasional Day Carry) by spader

Thank you Pattree for your kind comment. I tried to stamp the date and my ID on the blade, and it was very tricky. Ended up stamping the D the other way around, and they were out of line. It was the covid lockdown time, and really I was looking for something to pass the time in the garden...

DIY forged ODC (Occasional Day Carry) by spader

This ODC tool has been forged from a piece of old broken lawn mower blade in Feb. 2022. It still is razor sharp and no rust. Must be some kind of carbon steel. Using and carrying it occasionally in and around the house, when opening parcels or cutting parcel tapes for parcel up goods to post...

What is an every day carry really when you get down to it?

I don't carry anything with me in my daily life. So my EDC is a pair of hands really. All my tools stay either in the tool box drawers or garden shed. And when I do a particular work, the necessary tools are taken out to be used. Storing the tools in the old wooden garden shed proved to be...

    What did you buy today?

A few strops to the leather, the Opinel was hair shaving sharp. A great classic utility tool around the house and in the garden.

    What did you buy today?

B/Bury Multi Tool and Opinel No.8 both from Amazon. The B/Bury MT is a budget Chinese clone of LM Surge, but surprisingly a good tool, solidly made and working great. I sold all my Opinels in the past, and missed them for whittling and light carving works. Ended up buying a new one, and felt...

    The other half - Handles.

My DIY project back in 2009 - a bushcraft blade from recycled vintage sawblade. The wooden handle had been put on at the time, but after having been stored in the garden shed for 10++ years, the wood had gone bad with the damp, disintegrated from the blade and fallen off. Will just wrap around...

Withdrawn POST OFFICE DESTROYING KNIFE - THE END !!!

Or maybe there are a lot more complicated situation with the issue. I was not aware of them. I read more about the situation, and realise that there could be mammoth amount of uncertainties, grey areas and red tapes and grape vine stories. I think I have been lucky with my purchases so far...

    Fox Rambler 699 testing

I got this a few days ago from the forum, and it is now my one of the favorite blade for wood processing. Due to the hollow aluminium handle, the knife feels feather light giving excellent grip and balance. The leather sheath is 1st class well made by the Italian workmanship, and the blade is...

BBQ fire starter from Azda supermarket

Mine was £1.50 per a pack. Works well. At first I was worried on its possible toxicity, but it seems OK. There was no bad smell at all while the wood logs were burning in the stove.

Withdrawn POST OFFICE DESTROYING KNIFE - THE END !!!

Have been buying long billhook, and grass sickles from eBay and Amazon this year. No problems with ageVerification or anything at all. RM delivered them with super reliability and no problems. I am still not understanding what they are trying to do. Why try to ban work tools? The whole...

BBQ fire starter from Azda supermarket

If it is, it sounds organic. Maybe the wood ashes can be put down to the soil for the plants.
