I’ve done a few tutorials in the past about making leather books. I feel a bit of a fraud as I’m no expert and also I keep changing how I think they are best made. I moved from paper book inserts to having Filofax rings in them and am currently favouring disc binding. Anyway I got a pyrography...
Teenagers are notoriously late risers. Not so 11 year olds. Turns out they get up just past 6am. Below is a picture of Sorley getting water while Sam and Marlowe look at me with their, “*** are we doing up at this time”, looks.
When you are up, you’re up. May as well make the most of the day...
“He loves the outdoors. He is always in the woods lighting fires, making dens and using his Kelly Kettle. That’s why we have been badgering John for years to take him on a trip.”
Me, “This is literally the first time you’ve told me this”
Less than 2 weeks later.
Some context. It has been a...
Moving site can be done quite quickly but it can take days for the new IP to propagate. When we moved SotP from to a new server some people could not connect for over a week. Others were in after a couple of days. Same thing happened when we just changed the domain host but had the same server.
Assembly with wet hands would be easy. You only need to screw the gas canister on and job done. With extremely cold hands and very restricted movement I think I could assemble the stove without too much difficulty but lighting it with a firesteel may be the sticking point.
Edit: It would be...
It is absolutely without question a definite maybe ;)
This is the stove I would use in this scenario and I know Russ uses it the same. There are cheaper options that would do pretty much the same just needing to add a windbreak. There are also cheaper or more expensive options that are slightly...
Lots to address. In reverse order.
Petrochemicals, in a 17mph wind, the jetboil never brings any water to the boil ;). In optimum conditions the Windburned will do about 7 or 8 litres. However without testing them side by side in the same conditions we really can't be sure of a comparison. I'd...
I've just ordered one of these Gas Saver connectors from here, http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=371370357926&globalID=EBAY-GB This model has a release valve so you can vent the canister if you overfill it. It also lets you make sure canisters are empty before you puncture...
I know what you mean about the look of the "tower". The pictures do exadurate this but there is no denying it is has a high centre of gravity. In use I have found the supplied stand really helps to make it steady. Also because the pot clips to the stove when stirring you can hold the pot and it...
MSR brought out their Windburned stove last year. It was originally called the Windboiler. It is their entry into the market pretty much started by the Jetboil. The idea is simple, a stove that is self contained and will boil water / heat up food, with ruthless efficiency. What the Windburner...
It is my birthday today. 48 years young and all that. I used to always take the day off and go for a paddle on my birthday but this has fallen away for a number of reasons. This year i decided it was time to bring the tradition back. So after a breakfast of carrot cake and opening presents I...
Yes I've only used the free software so far. iMovie on my Mac now but Windows Movie Maker is pretty much the same. I'm not sure the advanced software is needed for most things.
I found a few and my partner found some. You find them by touch when patting the dog. You would never find them by sight alone.
Here is the video of the weekend. Rough and ready as I'm new to editing and filming.

Yes Sam ended up with over a dozen ticks on her that we have found so far. Luckily neither Russ or I seem to have picked up any. Sam has tick and flee treatment that should kill them within a day of them attaching but it never seems to work.
The firebox was good. the handles mean you can move it even when lit and it does not damage the ground. We found we burned more wood as we tend to only use half the Tentipi firebox space but that is not a big issue.
True but this is the weather lottery you play booking trips in advance. Plus there were enough boats about that no swim was going to be life threatening.
After a few years of not having any overnight trips Ive been making a concerted effort to get out more. So far it is working well. Part of the secret is planning in advance. So after our spring trip Russ and I had our summer trip booked well in advance. A June trip would let us enjoy the better...
