    Wind Turbines

yup...you only have to look at the Siemens manufacturing plant which is opening near Hull. The industry is in its infancy, and key players realise it costs too much to import from the Danish and other such nations who for so long have led the way. Techniques such as integraBlade were...

The birth of my first Scandi...

fair point Barn Owl, I dont even know why i dropped the point on this. I often think drop points look more 'tactical', so totally against what a scandi should look like (IMO)...needless to say the next one will NOT be a drop point.

The birth of my first Scandi...

cheers Dave, the bolster is made from copper, black scrap leather and an alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel that were kicking around the house. There will be more, as well as some bone, in the next handle...

    Wind Turbines

You dont seem to know what youre talking about and I get the impression your just spouting something you have heard elsewhere without any facts to back up your rather blinkered outburst. And as for costing millions of pounds, each turbine costs less than £1million...and thats for offshore...

The birth of my first Scandi...

Hi everyone... ...I have recently just finished my first scandi, and thought I would document its birth. Please excuse the terrible photo quality as they were taken on my phone. It's not the first blade I have made, but to be honest it has probably been the most enjoyable. It started of as a...

    Wind Turbines

here you go...read through this tech report. This was actually from a 3.0mW turbine. The 'sweep' of the blades and hence amount of wind 'harvested' is significantly less than the newer turbines we have today. 3.6mW are becoming the norm, but the 6mW direct drive (no gearbox and hence more...

    Wind Turbines

Yeah sure i'll dig some data out. What a lot of people get confused over is the actual cost in terms of money and not energy used to create them. They certainly dont pay for themselves in terms of money very quickly...that takes nearly 10 years depending on the model of turbine and where it is...

    Wind Turbines

and to add...wind power isnt the only solution. we need to utilise our natural assets and combine them. We're an island surrounded by water, so it makes sense to incorporate tidal power. nuclear would be a great option as its efficient etc...however, the bubble has burst on that despite what our...

    Wind Turbines

Being a wind turbine engineer, Im all for them...however, they have a place and are not suitable for installation in any location. The majority of 'farmable' wind is generally offshore, so it makes sense to have them out to see. I work on the new 3.6mW offhsore turbines, and they are remarkably...
