Rather than add a liner to your bag try adding a layer to your body, it won't get bunched up and has the benefit of going exactly where you do thus carrying heat along. Somewhat pricey but a good set of merino leggings and long sleeve top should do the job, plus they should pack smaller than...
Most use standard top loading packs suited for hiking. Depending on each persons choice and wallet size these can be something fairly cheap to some of the high end brands. But I just can get on well with the top load design, my only pack that fits that method is a 25lt omm pack which I use for...
Thanks for the help there, I have looked at other maxpedition stuff but it is simply too small for the money. For this work I need a total pack size of around 60 -80 litres with the ability to have perhaps another 5ish made from pockets & pouches. The only molle style things that even come close...
Just throwing some fancy ideas around my head and wondered if anyone has done something similar. Earlier this year I started to work with a mountain rescue team and one thing did become quickly apparent to me, for this type of work much of my gear was not ideal. While good boots, jackets &...
I got a folliage green 12x5 bottle pouch from HH back in December and so far have not got round to using it other than for a single walk and brew in the woods to see how well it held the gear I wanted. Still in mint condition with no scuffs etc. I still intend to make use of this pouch but the...
I know of profabrics.co.uk for lots and lots of outdoor type material but wonder if there is anywhere cheaper anyone here uses on a semi regular basis?
Thanks for the replies looks like I'll have to just go with the 12x5. SJStuart was the fit in the 12x5 a comfortable one? Would it happily take the crusader mug also?
I've been looking at the two versions of this and hoping to go for the 10x4 model. My only issue is will this take a 58 pattern bottle? The bottle is a little under 4.5" in width which should mean it's a no go for the 10x4. But if anyone owns one, can you tell me how much play there is in the...
Things looks about as much use as a door stop, the amount of effort in throwing down the wedge each time has to be similar if not more than the effort of swinging a well sharpened axe?
If you really want a log splitter then look at making a diy version of the industrial types. Many of these are...
I haven't used this company before, can anyone say what they are like for ordering online? Is it a nice hassle free experience? Main reason for asking is they seem to be doing a Petzl Tikka2 Xp Core package for £25-£30 cheaper than anywhere else and I really would love to snap it up.
Be aware many of the packs sold online are not real mod ones. A quick and easy way is to check the calorie count. Real mod rat packs clock in at 4000 calories for 24 hours, many of the ones sold online come in a 2400 calories.
If you just want rat pack style food for camping they are fine, but...
Hoping someone can help, I'm looking for a reasonable set of leather boots for the oh. She takes a size 3 so not much about for that range, most of the year I wear minimal footwear and use a set of Karrimor ksb orkneys for winter times. I had hoped to get a pair for her but they seem to go no...
I got myself the previous model to this not long ago http://www.regatta.com/xert/axe-edge-3-in-1-jacket.html. It has a liner that is more like sleeping bag material instead of fleece, my main issue with the fleece/softshell was that it doesn't compress well.
The version I have is labeled as...
Sounds about right, size for size the stuff is multiple times stronger than steel. There are already some spiders that make webs strong enough to catch small bats & birds mid flight, so wouldn't need that much of an upscale.
I normally have one of two bags with me when I head out depending on the time of year and weather, mixed with a good bivvy bag. For years this has worked just fine. I saw a thread on here about the Czech style 3 part bedrolls and looked into them a bit more. Obviously they are big heavy things...
Just wondering if anyone here has used any of the recycled leather products that are about on various sites, I got a sample of one company to see what it was like and it seems just like cheap thin leather.
Anyone that has used it can you say if it works well for crafting with and how does it...
I have used silk liners before but found two problems, first they twist and tangle during the night making quick get ups for any reason a chore. Second they add very little heat to the bag, often they are reviewed adding 5c or even more, I think this is total rubbish and just comes down to most...
Get down to a farmers market or other local food producers event, look for all the nearby honey sellers and ask them to buy it direct. Most of them already sell it off for other industries and you will find they will sell you far more for your money than any wax seller will.
