    Old sewing machines (pic heavy)

Why not just get a proper industrial machine and be done with it? Seems as a lot of people on here are into sewing machines for sewing machines sake, rather than actual sewing. Which is fine off course. But if you actually are in to sewing, instead of messing about with tens of different...

    Sewing a buttonhole?

There is an japanese made attachment from called ys-40 or something for industrial machines. I have one at home. It only makes straight shirt-type buttonholes and demands a certain fettling around. Usually available new on the auction site.

    Buschcraft by candlelight....

I don't know if they are available here but at home there was candles for putting on graves (in a plastic casing) which lasts easily 24 hours. Cheap too. I used to have those with me outdoors.

    Cheap Merino ?

Hahaha, wool count on a knit? Seriously? It isn't just about quality it's about also ecology and ethics. If you buy a merino shirt at this price you will not only get the lowest end of quality, you will also get wool from animals muled and pumped with antibiotics (which effects all of us), the...

    Wax cotton canvas coats

There was a blanket lined mackinaw coat thingy, called jeep coat sometimes. With a shawl collar. I wouldn't mind one of those.

    My Singer 201k Collection

Ah, what a shame. Otherwise I would consider buying one for home. I miss having a machine at home. Well well, I guess I'll have to be content with the industrials at work.

    Fleece liners

This is simply put not true. Isolation comes from loft. Fleece is thicker than most silk per weight. Hence a fleece liner is warmer. However you might perceive silk as warmer but that is not really the case. Primoloft and down offers a lot more loft per weight, so from a weight and bulk...

    My Singer 201k Collection

Wow, is that a kneelifter? Probably the first time I've seen a domestic machine with that.

    Wax cotton canvas coats

Geez, let's just try it out and see, ey? And regarding cut, let me just deal with it. I mean, even with layers, I don't need a 12" armscye, now do I? What I would like to try, is if it's feasible to use wax cotton as a shell cloth. As it in fact has some vapour permeability, why not try it? I...

    Wax cotton canvas coats

Well, actually vapour transport increases with closer distances. But anyway, a tad more fitted allows for better range of movement. A lot of people will probably think this is the opposite, but trust me on this one, a correctly cut garment can be quite fitted without restricting movement, which...

    Wax cotton canvas coats

It's always a compromise between sturdyness and vapour (non)-transport me thinks. I wouldn't go for the same fabric in a bed roll as in a jacket. But from an economy view is always good to consolidate. And I know you know your way around cloth and you have a good idea on what you will use the...

    Wax cotton canvas coats

Just watch out for the wax bleeding over /rubbing over on the wool. It happened to me when I bought a end bolt of non-labeled wax cotton and made a trial garment. Still have 15 meters left of that wax cotton, but it's back in Sweden.. :(

    New boot advice please.

I hated my meindls. They rotted after a few months only. And after 6 months the rubber lip on the leather (just above the sole) started cracking. Their distributor wouldn't replace them or give me a refund. Not impressed. They were stiff as downhill skiing boots as well. My lundhags are still...

    Wax cotton canvas coats

I have the swatches from millerain. How did you reason to go with the quite sturdy chera 8 cloth? Is it toughness or some other thought behind your choice?

    Wax cotton canvas coats

I do not agree. It is good if you are fairly static or if you have a heated shelter to dry out the garment. I like the wax cotton, but has very little vapour transport ability, and with that cotton lining it gets even worse. If someone would make one with a mesh lining instead it would probably...

    Haglofs LK50?

There is no 50 LK. There was a 50 litre bag that looked like a hybrid between 35 LK and 70 LK, but it's very short in the back to be worn over a back pouch on the LBE at the time. That pack predates both the 35LK and 70LK by at least a decade, probably more. It was made by haglöfs and Sacci, as...
