A Peimonte pattern axe by Prandi would be a fine choice for something packable and highly versatile. They are available in a range if different head weights and handle lengths. Calabria or Sicilia pattern axes by Rinaldi or Angelo B. might also be worth a look.

Gardena, same axe different branding, can be found a bit cheaper too. This axe is heavily favoured by some of my chainsaw wielding buddies from UK & Finland.

Nope, not really, a stitching awl will pass through it fine. It's more a case of time ease and aesthetics....and an excess of studs. Rivetting is too noisy for the time of day I'm able to do these little projects.
