    New member- bushcraft qualification advice?

There are plenty of NCFE courses being run now by various people. I did one a few years back with Wildway Bushcraft, they’re pretty far from Scotland though but I’d say that qualification or the IOL Bushcraft are the two recognised standards at the moment. Remember though like any...

    Waterproof Pen

I’ve been a volunteer for my local mountain rescue team for 9 years now. I’ve never used or had use for a notepad in the field like that and don’t really see one tbh. Only thing I’ve ever needed to write was a phone number and that went on my phone that I used to call it.

    Wooden Chopping Boards

Nobody is “driven” to use temu! :lmao: Folks use it because 1. It’s a fad 2. They can get cheap crap and satisfy their consumerist tendencies. He actually said “not too expensive if possible” but that’s an entirely subjective question. Expensive for me could be cheap for someone else.

    BACON!

I also prefer streaky bacon. Don’t know why but belly makes better bacon at home imo. I think it’s more versatile when it comes to cooking etc.

    Wooden Chopping Boards

I’m quite disappointed that on a forum such as this that people are recommending cheap, mass produced foreign products. I would have thought we were collectively more environmentally conscious than that, and would be more interested in locally sourced materials and hand crafted items? :dunno:

Chest Rigs - How Useful Are They?

When I bought my binoculars they came with a chest pack. I wasn’t too keen at first but the extra pockets are handy and I’ve got a few bits good to go now that would have normally rattled around in my game bag or been moved from one jacket to the next often being forgotten about. They have their...

Alternative to a sleeveless cotton vest

Meh… the old nonsense of “cotton kills” is (imho) a load of baloney. I think it comes from the days when cotton was used in 90% of the garments one wore. I always wear a decent cotton t-shirt as a base layer and have never had any issues when it gets wet. Unless you’re in a cold, wet environment...

Anyone a fan of tinned fish?

Anyone here like tinned salmon? For me it’s the only one that doesn’t work. Never really liked it for some reason, and unless I’ve missed it nobody has mentioned it yet…

Anyone a fan of tinned fish?

Lidl used to do herring in a mustard sauce. I haven’t seen them in a while now, but then I did stop looking. They were delicious!

    free game

Golf course or woodland or anything in between the deer will taste different depending on the season as they move from one food resource to the next. I let mine hang for a maximum of 7 days and then do all the butchery at once as it does lose its flavour if left any longer.

    Ridgeline Monsoon Jacket?

The only thing I dislike about mine is the shape of the hood. It finishes at the top of my head and the back is all stretched and pulling. Hard to describe but a bigger hood would suit me better personally.
