    Knife Postage

It looks like DHL are OK, both domestic and international delivery. They don't specifically mention knives or bladed items (though antiques and works of art are). They 'might' class them under the 'dangerous goods' heading, but I can't find any clarification as to what they consider dangerous...

    Knife Postage

for goodness sake!!! :censored: when did royal fail institute these new regs? I have sent goodness knows how many 'bladed articles' abroad with them! Several over the last few months too. So far I've not heard of any having been stopped or opened, so they clearly don't x-ray everything for...

    SAK seems decent price

I get lots of tools from ffx and they are great, if a little patchy with what is in stock (ie if you need part of an order the same week, then phone to check or they will wait a month until everything arrives with them!). They are also the cheapest place i've found for certain SAKs.

    Replacement Leatherman Blades

I agree, they normally replace the whole thing unless requested (such as engraved sides etc). Replacement parts, especially waves, are available on etsy (uk sources). Lots of folk modify tools, so most common parts are there as well as upgrades on blades

Vintage Kent Felling Axe Head found on River Thames - ID help please.

If you are on facebook, try the axe junkies group or better still the billhook junkies group. There are lots of folks on there that are i to their 19th century tool makers and might have an idea.

What does it have in its Walletsies ?

Never carried a wallet, like Wander, it's "all of my eggs in one basket". I wouldn't ever put credit cards in my phone case for the same reason. I also don't like bulky/heavy/rigid things in my pockets either. When i get to the workshop, the first thing i do is take my phone out of my pocket...

    Course list for 2023

crikey, you had me worried there for a minute! The dates in the list are the same as on my website and in my diary, which is a small surprise to me as well :)

    Course list for 2023

I was late putting this year's course dates onto my website so I still have some places left on the group courses this summer. I don't schedule many group courses these days but if you have your own group (4-6 people) then we can run one just for you :) I also run private courses for pairs and...

    EasyHammock shutdown.

Sorry to hear this mate :sadwave: Most of my materials and consumables are made in Europe and I sell stuff all over the world (despite the extra costs and delays to the customers), so I fully understand the trouble you've been having since good ole brexit  Hopefully you'll be able to...

    A New Life

Congratulations! I suggest hooking up with Hamish (half goat), he often does work there so should be easy to get hold of. He's a wealth of knowledge and can teach you stuff as well as pointing you in the right direction

    Spiders, spiders, so many spiders

On a similar note, i have some leather sleaves (not gloves, just sleaves) that i use when grinding and welding sometimes. I put one on today and wondered for a split second why my hand had so many fingers and then why it ran off on it's own accord! Then my brain caught up and i realised there...

    Nostalgic Fray Bentos Pie

I occasionally have them in the workshop (not for a few years though. Maybe i shall buy one tonight). I stick them into the tempering oven and they come out well, but are much better in the gas forge for extra crispy pastry! Away from modcons, i have boiled the puddings on fires fine. In some...

    ROMAN MULTI-TOOL

I'm with you on this Toddy. All of the tools on there are food related. It's normally listed as an ear or cosmetics spoon, but why anybody keep their toothbrush and lipstick in the kitchen cutlery drawer? Given the range of fiddly and odd foods rich Romans enjoyed, a scoop for marrow/shell...

    ROMAN MULTI-TOOL

There are folks here in the UK that make them too ;-) Not something I would want to make though I have to confess. Steve Wagstaff (the Roman Trader) makes a lovely one and is always under-priced. I think Todd (tods workshop/tods knives/tods stuff) makes them too

What would you not be able to do if your phone died ?

For me my phone is used for people to get hold of me (mostly that means customers wanting stuff or delivery drivers trying to find me!) and occasionally ordering things over the phone if it is likely to be easier than online. Otherwise my phone is a camera, calculator and clock. I could have...

    Anyone had any rain yet.?

we started get some proper drizzle today, it's barely stopped since before dawn. The grass in the neighbouring field was brown and parched on Monday, but is already perking up (though the sheep are making short work of it)

    Anyone had any rain yet.?

In my part of Devon we had drizzle from the small hours until maybe 10am. The ground was wet and there were puddles forming, so some moisture should seep down. Since then though the day has just been warm and overcast. More rain is predicted tomorrow, but we shall see. Edit. 3:30pm and it's...

    Temporary Light weight Shed/Structure

i use those pop up garages from Machine Mart (https://www.machinemart.co.uk/c/sheds/) as sheds around my woods. Pretty cheap for what they are and I've not had much damage due to weather (ie wind or sun) even after being up in the woods for 7(?) years in some cases They can be put up on your...

    Can you read this engraving?

Interersting. I've never seen a billhook with that shape but there are a few sickles that are. Shearing hooks used by thatchers being the nearest in size, style and weight. Maybe they were made or modified for a thatcher?
