Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I recently posted a pic of my new knife on Bushcraft & Survival Skills Magazine's Facebook page, the editor was very interested in it and asked for the rundown. I am hoping to go to the Outdoors show in London in early 2011 and I'd love to take the knife and show it to them on their stand.
I...
Brancho was kind enough to send me some leather and a basic kit to try my hand at making a leather axe mask...he took pity on me on Escouts when I mentioned I'd look for a charity shop handbag to fashion something out of! :D
After much measuring and not a little procrastination I set about...
Thanks Alf but it's spooky-I looked at that very same video yesterday before seeing your post. That's the style I'll try. I also started colouring the leather too.
I'll fight the urge to just look at it! Also, having had mainly Frosts knives up to this point it's noticeable how much heavier the new knife is but in a good way.

Well it's thanks to our blade chat at the last Gilwell bushie base that I ended up with this knife! It's now the last edition of the mag we are in...thought I posted it on the Escouts Bushcraft & Nature social group...I thought the guy who wrote the piece did a brilliant job!
I said to Lance that it's exactly as I imagined it would be and he often doubled checked details with me...I'd obviously recommend his knives, and he is very well priced too. I work for Waitrose (John Lewis Partnership) BTW.
There is a catch, you have to have done 25 continuous years of service...The condition is that you have to use the money on something you can look at and say 'Work brought me that'...I couldn't email Lance quick enough! I also got £250 to spend on a swanky meal and have a one-off six month work...
I have just received a knife made by Lance Ockenden (aka Driftwoodwalker) and whilst it was being made he kindly agreed to take some pictures of the knife throughout its production as I was interested to see the stages. Ive reproduced some below add in a strop by Toadflax and an incoming...
Brancho has been kind enough to send me some leather and basic tools to make an attempt at a mask for my axe. I've made several cardboard masks, each different from the last .
This is the design Im thinking of using (Ive superimposed a stopper). I'm looking at sewing a curved strip...
I got one for about £8 from Ronnie Sunshines and gave it a pounding most of the day on the Bushcraft base at Gilwell24 Explorer camp (including digging a pit for a stone oven in baked hard ground in the fire circle) and it was fine.
Four now gone (subject to sae) to man_of_tanith, Matt.S, Tim_N & EdS. Two lots left if anyone is interested...
I've just posted some to my folks and returned some favours using Size 0 Jiffy bags (bag size approx 20cm x 15cm) and small cardboard boxes with tape wrapped round which will...
Blimey, only two takers?! I thought Chequers were a bit hard to get so that's why I picked bunches of the things...four more lots up for grabs if anyone's interested...
I'm sending some to my folks so I'll post a pic on here in due course of what I posted them in.
ACSL with Amwell Scout Group via Scout and Beaver sections...9 years worth! Our Group Scout Leader has said that I can start putting some Bushcraft/ Outdoor skills pics and movie clips on our group website.
If you join Escouts you can join the Bushcraft & Nature Social Group-It's...
It’s been a good year for Chequers! I’m offering the first six people to PM me a bunch of them to try.
I’ve posted this at tea time to give folk a fair crack and I’ll post the first six on here in due course. Those six will need to send me a suitable SAE (remember that...
I use paper clips, bent to whatever letters you want, and then heated in a flame (holding it with pliers). Obviously don't push onto plastic too hard or you'll have a letter shaped hole :D
Maybe the tennis phrases didn't quite fit in with what he was doing, but he did state it's a method that locals use, it seems to be a good source of easy(ish) survival food and who's to say kids haven't maimed animals and fish by copying Ray Mears' demos for deadfall traps (and forgotten about...
I tried them last year and wasn't blown away taste wise...not sure if I oversoaked them maybe? I thought the nutty texture would be great in stuffing mind you. Thead here http://tiny.cc/lfm4l
